Step 2: Select your ingredients

Next, you’ll need to decide what kind of beer you want to make and decide on the corresponding ingredients. The basics you’ll need are malt extract, hops, and yeast. Malt extract is the main ingredient in beer and comes in either a liquid or powder form. You can also add specialty grains to give your beer a unique flavor and color. During this time, you’ll be able to monitor the progress of the beer by taking readings with a hydrometer.

After two weeks, it’s time to bottle your beer. First, you’ll need to sanitize the bottles, caps, and the capper. Once the equipment is sanitized, you can begin the bottling process. When transferring the beer from the fermenter, take care to leave the yeast and sediment behind. Once the beer is in the bottles, you’ll seal them with the caps and capper and wait for two more weeks for the beer to carbonate.
