First and foremost, it’s important to focus on the ingredients you’ll need for your beer. For starters, malt extract is essential for home brewing. Malt extract comes in two varieties, liquid and dry. When making a brew, it’s important to choose the right one for your needs. In general, liquid malt extract is best for dark beers, while dry malt extract works best for light-colored beers.
Next, you’ll need the basic supplies required for home brewing. Next, take a gravity reading with a hydrometer, which measures the amount of sugar in the wort. Finally, add your yeast and cap off the vessel.
From there, the beer will ferment in the vessel for anywhere from seven to fourteen days. During this time, check the temperature in the fermentation vessel regularly and make any adjustments as needed. A key part of successful fermentation is also monitoring the gravity of the beer as well. Once fermentation is complete, the beer is ready to bottle.
To begin the bottling step, you’ll need to prepare your bottles in advance. Make sure they are wiped down and sterilized before filling each one with your beer. An auto-siphon is a great tool to make this process easier, as it allows for fairly quick and mess-free transfers. Finally, cap off the bottles with a bottle capper and store the beer in a cool dry place.
