As a modern day bartender, I’m always looking to create something unique that packs a powerful, yet palatable punch. The best way to achieve this is to challenge myself and combine unexpected elements to create something wholly new.
So, if I had a seemingly unlimited supply of mixers and spirits, what beverage would I whip up? To answer that question, I decided to look to the past to see how iconic alchemists and mixologists were crafting intriguing drinks centuries ago. With that knowledge in hand, I’m ready to mix up something special and put a modern spin on things. Let’s see what enchanting drink I can put together with all these ingredients.
Mixology with a Modern Twist
To start, I would want something that packs a bit of a punch. I would want to create a classic Blood and Sand…but with a modern twist. To do this, I would combine traditional ingredients like equal parts Scotch Whiskey, sweet vermouth, orange juice, and grenadine, with some unique flavors like homemade vanilla syrup and a splash of lime juice.
The vanilla syrup would add a sense of sweetness that would mellow out the initial bite of the whiskey and vermouth.
